Truck driver involved in crash that killed four Police officers to remain behind bars

UPDATE @ 1.00PM | The truck driver involved in a horror crash in Melbourne has been remanded in custody, after a brief appearance in court this morning.

47-year-old Mohinder Singh Bajwa was charged with four counts of culpable driving, after he allegedly crashed into a police scene along Melbourne’s Eastern Freeway last Wednesday night.

He collided with four police officers, who sadly died at the scene.


A court heard the truck driver may have been suffering from an un-diagnosed psychiatric illness and is in need of medical attention.

The man did not apply for bail.

He’ll remain behind bars, to face court again in October.

EARLIER @ 6.30AM | The truck driver involved in a horror crash in Melbourne, which killed four police officers, has now been charged.

The officers had pulled over a speeding Porsche on the side of the Eastern Freeway in Kew on Wednesday night, when a truck crashed into the scene.

Four police officers died as a result of the crash, and the Porsche driver allegedly escaped.

The 47-year-old truck driver had reportedly suffered a medical episode and blacked out at the scene of the crash.

Until yesterday, he’d been under police guard in hospital.

He’s now been charged with four counts of culpable driving, and will front a magistrates court in Melbourne today.

The 41-year-old Porsche driver fronted court last week on multiple charges, where he was remanded in custody.

He’ll front court again this morning.

…curious to know what made the truck driver culpable.

I’d like to know the details as well. But just the fact that the police were on the side of the road and he hit them indicates that he was, at least partially, not driving in his own lane. He was, at least partially, off the road.
