Truck driver threatened with axe as masked men ransack shopping centre

Two men remain on the run after a terrifying robbery where a truck driver was threatened with an axe.

The 31-year-old had parked his truck at a supermarket loading dock in Salamander Bay, north east of Newcastle, early Saturday morning, when confronted by two men.

“The men, who had their faces concealed, threatened him with an axe before detaining him and forcing him into the food court of the shopping centre,” Police said in a statement.

The men stole cash from a number of outlets before ordering the driver to lie behind a counter.

They then ran off and the truck driver wasn’t physically injured..

Police have forensically examined the crime scene and launched an investigation into the incident.

They have appealed for public assistance to identify and locate those involved.

The men were heavily concealed; however, they’ve been described as being aged in their late teens or early 20s, approximately 170 to 180cm tall and with athletic builds.
