Truckie charged after pedestrian’s leg almost cut off in horror accident

Police have charged a truck driver after a pedestrian’s leg was partially severed in Sydney’s west.

A 79-year-old man was allegedly struck by the truck on Woodville Rd at Guildford around 6.15am on Monday morning with the truck failing to stop.

The man was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Westmead Hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

The accident caused major traffic delays for peak hour drivers with the southbound lanes of Woodville Rd closed for several hours.

The truck driver later returned to the scene of the accident before he was taken to Granville Police Station.

He has now been charged with dangerous occasioning grievous bodily harm – drive manner dangerous, and negligent driving (occasion grievous bodily harm).

The 57-year-old was granted conditional bail and will front Paramatta Local Court on April 9.

His truck has been seized for forensic examination.
