Trump Snr defends Trump Jr over Russian emails

US President Donald Trump has defended his eldest son as “innocent” after the release of emails which showed Donald JR welcomed Russian help against Hilary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election.

“My son Donald did a good job last night. He was open, transparent and innocent. This is the greatest Witch Hunt in political history. Sad!”, the US President wrote on Twitter.

The saga began when Donald Jr released a series of emails between himself and the “crown prosecutor of Russia” who said they’d be able to provide his  father with information to help incriminate Clinton.

Trump Jr had learned the New York times were preparing to release these emails in a story, so he jumped the gun and published them on Twitter.

Since releasing these emails, there have been reports Trump Jr may have to face a senate inquiry.
