Trump taking malaria drug to ward of coronavirus

The US President has this morning confirmed that he’s been taking an unproven drug in the hopes it will prevent him from contracting coronavirus.

Donald Trump says he’s started taking the malaria drug ‘hydroxychloroquine’, and has been on it for over a week.

Clinical trials are still underway to see if there’s any evidence the drug could combat the virus, however the Centers for Disease Control maintains there are currently no approved drugs that can prevent or treat Covid-19.

But Trump told reporters he’s received enough evidence to convince him.

“I’m taking it for about a week and a half now and I’m still here, I’m still here.

“Here’s my evidence, I get a lot of positive calls about it.”

“You’d be surprised at how many people are taking it, especially the frontline workers before you catch it, the frontline workers, many, many are taking it.

“I happen to be taking it,” Trump said.
