Tweed cops punched and spat on in violent assault

Two police officers have been taken to hospital after a violent assault in Tweed Heads on Sunday.

The officers were called to a home in Zara around 2.30pm after receiving calls about an incident in the home.

When police tried to speak with the man inside he allegedly became aggressive towards another occupant in the house.


The man allegedly attacked two officers and a struggle occurred, where the man punched and spat at police.

He was arrested and taken in to custody.

The two officers – a senior constable and a constable – were taken to Tweed Heads Hospital for treatment.

The senior constable was treated for a neck injury and the constable for an injury to his hand.

Both were later released following treatment.

A 22-year-old man was also taken to Tweed Heads Hospital and upon his release; charges are expected to be laid
