In the last five years, eight people have been injured at the southern intersection of Riverside Drive and Tweed Valley Way in Tumbulgum. And now the Tweed Shire Council has managed to secure funding to fix it.
The Roads and Maritime Services have provided $250,000, through their Blackspot Program, allowing the Council to upgrade the sheltered left turn lane and improve safety.
Work is expected to take five weeks.

In a statement, the Tweed Shire Council said the Blackspot works will help motorist to have a clear line of sight as they turn in to or out of, or approach the intersection.
The Council has also announced another $260,000 will be spent on rehabilitating Riverside Drive. This work will begin after the Blackspot upgrade and will take a further five weeks to complete.
Road closures and detour via the northern entrance to Riverside Drive will be in place for periods of time and some delays can be expected.
