Tweed Heads man charged following violent assault of Southport woman

A 21-year-old Tweed Heads South man will front Southport Court today, charged with enter premises with intent to commit an indictable offence, robbery using personal violence, attempted unlawful use of a motor vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and fail to comply with requirement to stop private vehicle.

Around 1.35am yesterday, a 54-year-old woman saw a man attempting to gain entry to a locked stairwell in an underground carpark at Marine Parade.

The woman challenged the man who then punched her several times in the face before getting into her Mercedes C10 and driving off.  She was taken to the Gold Coast Hospital for treatment of serious facial injuries.


The stolen silver Mercedes C10 was later located by police at Coolangatta where a search was executed.

A 34-year-old man from Palm Beach has also been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and is due to face Coolangatta Magistrates Court on August 28.
