Tweed Shire Celebrity Dance For Cancer a great success

Cancer Council’s inaugural Tweed Shire Celebrity Dance For Cancer was held  over the weekend and organisers have hailed the event a huge success.

Following the format of Dancing With The Stars, Celebrity Dance For Cancer saw ten community celebrities from the Tweed Shire and Gold Coast communities team up with local dance teachers to perform a dance routine.

Cancer Council’s Yonit Kittay said the Tweed Civic Centre was a buzz with glitz and glamour.

“The event sold out and had exceeded our expectations. Overall the event raised $25,000 towards Cancer Council NSW,” she said.

“The majority of the money was raised by our local stars who fundraised continuously weeks prior to the event.Amy Ludeke won the highest fundraising award with a whopping $5,300 and Billabong Swim School and Ivory Tavern were not far behind”

Award standouts on the night were:
Highest Fundraiser – Amy Ludeke
Judges Choice – Zoe Stacey & Jason Sullivan
Peoples Choice – Amy Ludeke & Alejandro Barriga
Cheesiest Grin – Allison Bryant & Matthew Stephan
Best Recovery – Jayne Henry & Jake Maloney
Most Technical – Amy Ludeke & Alejandro Barriga

“All money raised will go towards cancer research, services and prevention programs in the local area. One such example being Transport To Treatment; This financial year we have given $15k towards this practical support service, which has been instrumental in ensuring that cancer patients with less accessible transport means are able to get to the best possible treatment centres,” said Yonit Kittay.

Donations are still pouring in and fundraising remains opens for a further two weeks. For anyone wanting to donate contact Abby Wallace or Yonit Kittay at Cancer Council on 02 6639 1300.
