Two arrested after high speed police chase on the Gold Coast Hwy

New South Wales police and Queensland police have been playing tag with a car that darted across the border, during a high speed chase this afternoon.

The grey Holden Commodore was spotted shortly after 12.30pm, flying past the Gold Coast Airport, followed by multiple police cars and motorbikes.

Witnesses say all vehicles were travelling at crazy speeds.

Police from the Tweed Heads Station have confirmed the chase started in New South Wales, before crossing into Queensland.

Once the car was north of the border – Queensland Police took over the chase for a short time.

The Commodore then attempted to recross the border via the Gold Coast Highway, though New South Wales Police were prepared with tyre spikes.

Police confirmed that two people were arrested after the car was stopped just before 1.00pm.

It is still unclear how the police chase started.

No injuries have been reported at this stage.
