Two Australian surfers have advanced into the quarter-finals of the US Open in California.
Lennox Heads local Tyler Wright dominated her heat against fellow Aussie Keely Andrew and Hawaii’s Malia Manuel.
Kingscliffe’s Stephanie Gilmore finished at the top of her Round Three heat against Coco Ho and Carissa Moore.

Sally Fitzgibbons wasn’t so lucky, finishing second behind America’s Lakey Peterson. She will have to battle it out in the elimination rounds to remain in the comp.
However her chief rival for the crown, Courtney Conlogue of the USA, also ensured her path to the final eight with the performance of the day.
In swells of less than 1m, Conlogue was at her best in her home town, narrowly edging out Australian Laura Enever with a combined score of 14.90.
