Gooley spent some time in hospital on life support, suffering from an unstable heart condition.

Last year Solicitor Bruce Peters said his client was worried he would die trying to clear his name but he was eventually released and returned to prison.

In January police handed over an additional 69 witness statements and 32 exhibits before asking for an adjournment.

The case will return to Southport Court on Wednesday.
