Two charged over one-punch attack in Surfers Paradise

Police have laid charges over a one-punch attack in Surfers Paradise over the weekend.

A group of friends were walking in an alleyway off Orchid Avenue in the early hours of Saturday morning when the 29-year-old Upper Coomera man was allegedly coward punched.

His head hit the pavement, causing him to lose consciousness. He had to be hospitalised with serious injuries to his head and face.

A 26-year-old Southport man also sustained minor injuries during the alleged assault.

A 20-year-old man from Wamuran in Moreton Bay has now been charged with grievous bodily harm and common assault and was granted bail to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on November 1.

Another 20-year-old man from the same area was issued with a Notice to Appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on one count of stealing in relation to the alleged theft of a mobile phone.

A third man was released without charge.
