Two dead after truck and car collide in horror crash

TWO people have been killed and three others injured – one of them critically – after a car carrying four people collided with a truck in Central West NSW.

Emergency services are still on the scene of the horror smash which occurred on the Newell Highway at Ardlethan, about 70km south of West Wyalong, just after 11.30am.

Sadly, police confirmed the driver of the car and one of its three passengers died at the scene. Their genders and ages were not immediately known.

A second passenger was cut from the wreckage and flown to Canberra Hospital in a critical condition.

The third escaped with only minor physical injuries and was treated by paramedics at the scene.

The man driving the truck was also treated for minor injuries before being taken to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital for mandatory drug and alcohol testing.

Detectives from the state’s forensic crash unit will travel to the scene and investigate the circumstances surrounding the double fatality.

The highway remains closed, with local traffic diversions in place.
