Two dead, five injured after cars collide on regional highway

A MAN and a woman have been killed and five other people including two teenage children have been injured in a horror head on crash near Echuca, in regional Victoria.

The accident happened on the Murray Valley Highway at Tongala, in the state’s north just after 8am on Saturday.

Police said a vehicle travelling east on the highway smashed into a car as it entered the highway from Scobie Road.

The five occupants of the first car, two men and a woman in their 40s and two teens, sustained minor injuries.

They were all taken to hospital in stable conditions for treatment.

Sadly, a man and a woman aged in their 60s who were travelling in the second car could not be saved.

Police said the couple died before they could transported to hospital.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident are continuing.
