Two dead in horror single vehicle crash

TWO young men aged in their 20s have been killed in a horrific single vehicle crash north of the Sunshine Coast.

It happened on Harvey Siding Rd at Curra, near Gympie, just after 7pm last night.

Police said the men’s Mazda dual-cab ute veered off the road and smashed side-on into a tree at extreme speed after the driver lost control on a bend in the road.

The impact was so great, the utility folded around the trunk of the tree, killing the driver and front seat passenger instantly.

Wide Bay Forensic Crash Unit officer-in-charge Sergeant Steve Webb said early investigations indicated speed was a factor in the crash.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
