Two dead in explosive truck crash

TWO drivers have been killed after a truck loaded with sugar cane smashed into a sedan and burst into flames south of Cairns.

The two vehicles came to grief on the Bruce Highway at Feluga, near Tully, just after midnight.

Sadly, there was nothing emergency services could do so save the drivers. Police confirmed they were both pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the double fatality and are urging witnesses to come forward.

Both lanes of the highway remained closed on Sunday morning, with diversions through Mission Beach expected to be in place until midday.
