Two dead, 9 injured in multi-vehicle crash

TWO people have been killed and several others injured in a horror multi-vehicle crash south of Sydney.

It happened in the southbound lanes of the M1 Princes Motorway at West Wollongong just after 2pm.

It’s understood at least two trucks and three cars were involved in the collision near the Mt Keira overpass.

One of the trucks burst into flames on impact.

Police have confirmed at least two people from one car were pronounced dead at the scene, while the number of injured persons are still being established.

There are reports paramedics are assessing as many as nine patients at the scene.

Their genders, ages and conditions were not immediately known.

At this time, all southbound lanes are closed, while two northbound lanes being used by emergency vehicles.

Motorists are being urged to avoid the area until further notice.

Drivers wanting to get through are being diverted around the site via Mount Ousley Rd and the Princes Hwy.
