Two dead in tragedy on Pacific Motorway in NSW

TWO people have been killed in a horrific accident on the Pacific Motorway near Newcastle in NSW.

Emergency services were called to the scene in the southbound lanes of the M1 near George Booth Drive just after 5.30pm AEDT.

The exact circumstances surrounding the accident remain unclear, however, in a statement, police said “two people were found deceased after being struck by a truck”.

The gender and age of both victims were not immediately known.

Southbound lanes remained closed to traffic with diversions in place at the time of writing.

Motorists are being urged to steer clear of the area or delay their journey if possible.

Forensic crash investigators are on the scene, investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Anyone who witnessed the tragedy and has not yet spoken with police is urged to come forward.
