Two elderly pedestrians killed in Christmas Eve tragedy in Townsville
There’s been a pre-Christmas tragedy in Far North Queensland with the death of two elderly pedestrians in Townsville.
The man and woman aged in their 70’s were hit by a blue Mazda SUV while crossing Ross River Rd in Mysterton around 7.10pm on Monday night.
Witnesses describe seeing the pair being flung some distance after they were struck.
Paramedics rushed to the accident site but the couple could not be saved and were declared deceased at the scene.
Police have described it as a tragic accident but say they’re still trying to determine exactly what happened
The male driver of the SUV was taken to hospital to be treated for shock and to undergo mandatory tests.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
