Two girls charged after allegedly stealing ride share car from Surfers Paradise

Two girls have been charged over an alleged armed robbery in Surfers Paradise in the early hours of this morning.

The 15 and 17-year-old’s asked a ride-share driver for a lift on Cavill Avenue around 1.40 am before getting into a 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander.

The 29-year-old male driver began driving along Ferny Avenue where the girls allegedly asked him to pull over before then threatening him with a broken glass bottle.

They demanded the man get out of the vehicle, which he did, before they left the scene. He reported the incident to police.

Officers tracked the car down to Brisbane Road in Helensvale where they deployed a tyre deflation device and intercepted the car.

The two girls tried to flee on foot but didn’t get far.

A 15-year-old Pimpama girl and a 17-year-old Loganholme girl have each been charged with one count of armed robbery and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

They’ll both front Southport Children’s Court later this month.
