Two hospitalised after car slams into tree on the Gold Coast

Two patients have been taken to hospital after their car crashed into a tree on the Gold Coast this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Markeri Street and Rio Vista Boulevard in Mermaid Waters around 1.00pm, following reports of the traffic incident.

Police say it appeared the male driver had suffered a medical episode at the wheel, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and into a tree.

Paramedics treated two people briefly at the scene, the male driver and another, and took them to the Gold Coast University Hospital with ‘moderate’ injuries.

They’re both believed to be in stable conditions.

Meantime, the tree that the car collided with has fallen over, and is currently blocking the westbound lane of Markeri Street.

Council has been called to help clear the blockage, with fire fighter crews in attendance as well.
