Two killed, three injured in horror crash on Pacific Highway

Two people have died and another three have been injured in a horror head-on crash on the NSW North Coast.

The accident happened just after 4.15pm Monday, when a station wagon and hatchback collided on the Pacific Highway, just south of Maclean.

Police confirmed the 78-year-old male driver of the hatchback and his 72-year-old female passenger died at the scene.


The occupants of the station wagon, including a woman and two men, suffered serious injuries and were taken to hospital.

The 40-year-old woman was airlifted to Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition, while the two men were taken by Ambulance to Lismore Base Hospital.

The highway was closed for several hours while officers examined the scene. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are ongoing.
