Two men charged after storming Gold Coast pizza shop with 20cm knife

Two men have been charged over a violent armed robbery of a pizza store on the Gold Coast overnight.

The pair allegedly entered a shop on Oxley Drive in Runaway Bay around 10.30 pm, where one pulled out a 20-centimetre long kitchen knife and made demands for money.

The 22-year-old store attendant refused to hand over any cash and chased the would-be thieves out of the store.

Out the front, the employee was allegedly assaulted by the pair but did not sustain any significant injuries.

The two offenders got away in a white Mazda 2, which was later seen by police travelling west along Napper Road at Ashmore.

Police followed the vehicle to the car park of a nearby tavern, where they blocked the car and then took the two men into custody.

A 20-year-old man from Nerang has been charged with attempted armed robbery and possessing a dangerous drug.

A 22-year-old man from Beechmont has been charged with attempted armed robbery and assault.

Both will front court later this month.
