Two teens charged over stolen car chase on Gold Coast

Two teenage boys have been charged after a stolen car chase came to a dramatic end in a Gold Coast shopping centre.

A BMW sedan had been reported stolen from Jubilee Avenue in Broadbeach just before 6.30am on Monday morning,

That vehicle was spotted about four hours later travelling towards the Gold Coast Highway.

PolAir began monitoring the vehicle from the air before it was seen entering an underground car park on the Gold Coast Highway.

Two occupants left the BMW before fleeing the car park in a silver Honda sedan that had been reported stolen from a Mudgeeraba address around 5.30am on Monday.

Officers kept watch on the Honda before successfully deploying tyre spikes at Worongary.

The Honda was then seen entering the car park at the Worongary Shopping Centre where the offenders tried to escape on foot towards Quanborn St.

Both were taken into custody by Police a short time later.

A 17-year-old boy has been charged with two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count each of possessing dangerous drugs and common assault.

A 14-year-old boy has been charged with two counts each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, burglary and commit indictable offence, driving without a licence, dangerous operation of a vehicle and one count each of receiving tainted property and fraud.

Both were denied bail and will appear before Southport Children’s Court.
