Minister Tim Mander said in a news conference on Monday that “it’s the second time this has happened this year” with overcrowding at the prison believed to be a contributing factor.

“The question has to be asked, are the appropriate people being put in these facilities? Of course, if you are escaping from it, you’re probably in the wrong facility,” Mr Mander said.

“This is the second time this has happened this year and so I think that’s a real concern for community safety.”

Anyone who sees either woman or has any information is urged to contact police or call Policelink on 131 444.
