Two women stabbed to death in “likely terrorist act” at French train station

A man has been shot and killed by a soldier after stabbing two women to death at a train station in France, in what police are labelling as a”likely terrorist act”.

Police sources say the suspect shouted “Allahu Akbar” in Arabic as he carried out his attack on the women, aged 17 and 20, at Marseille’s main railway station in southern France.

About 200 police officers had cordoned off the area and all roads were closed to traffic.

Interior Minister Gerard Collomb remained cautious on the nature of the act.

“This could be of a terrorist nature, but we cannot confirm it fully at this stage,” Collomb said.

French President Emmanuel Macron said on Twitter he was “deeply outraged by this barbaric act” and praised the calmness and efficiency of the military and police.
