A MAN has been rescued from his sinking car after launching it into a river on the Gold Coast.
The man was allegedly seen speeding down Yacht Street in Southport before his Lexus SUV left the road, smashed through a barrier and a park bench at the end of the dead-end street and launched into the Nerang River.
Two quick-thinking tradies working at a house nearby saw the SUV plunge into the water and wasted no time diving in to rescue the driver, who was unconscious and trapped in the vehicle.

The workers pulled the man out of the vehicle, which was fully submerged, and brought him to shore.
Incredibly, the driver escaped serious injury.
He regained consciousness and was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
His vehicle remains at the bottom of the river.
