A man, dressed only in his underwear, has been taken into custody after trying to outrun police by jumping into the ocean at Mermaid Beach.
Police have confirmed they received a call about a disturbance on Montana Road around 9.15am on Friday, with reports a man had been walking in the middle of the road and kicking over rubbish bins.
Officers conducted a search of the area to try and find the man and eventually located him down on the beach.

It is understood he has then run into the water and refused to come out.
Police officers and lifeguards on jet skis worked to get him out of the water but he continued to refuse police direction.
