Union players stuck in NSW after taking day trip to Byron ahead of GC match

Some dramas for the rugby union match which is set to take place on the Gold Coast this Saturday, with multiple players now trapped over the border.

The Wallabies are set to take on Argentina at Cbus, but there have been reports that eight of the Los Pumas players went for a day trip to Byron Bay yesterday, not knowing that you can’t cross the border for recreational reasons.

When they then tried to return to Queensland last night, they were denied entry by border police.

They’ve now spent the night in Kingscliff, New South Wales.

It’s put the match in serious doubt, with the players, including the Captain, now likely needing an exemption to come back into the Sunshine State.

It comes as both sides of the New South Wales/Queensland border record new covid cases, meaning lockdowns could be imminent.
