UPDATE | Driver of semi possibly carrying hazardous material surrenders in the US

UPDATE 6:52AM | The driver of a semi trailer, possibly loaded with hazardous materials, has  surrendered to police after a three hour pursuit.

His truck was surrounded by armed officers and the dog squad a short time ago.

He was filmed exiting the cabin and lying face down on the ground before he was taken into custody.

EARLIER 6:25am | A chase in the United States, involving a semi trailer possibly loaded with hazardous materials, has entered its third hour.

The driver is leading California Highway Patrol officers across the Inland Empire.

Police gave chase when the driver failed to pull over for them, according to San Bernardino County sheriff’s officials.

The truck reached speeds of around 112km/h on the 15 Freeway.

ABC 7 reports the driver, who appeared to be alone in the cab, reportedly told police that he was not armed and that he doesn’t want to go back to jail.

The company name on the truck reads “ACT Enviro,” a company that transports hazardous material.
