UPDATE: Man charged over security guard assault during violent armed robbery

UPDATE @ March 24 2018 9am | Gold Coast detectives have nabbed the man they believe is responsible for the violent armed robbery of a pharmacy in Southport.

It’s alleged the 45-year-old entered the Chemist Warehouse store at the Brickworks around 7:30pm on Thursday, armed with what appeared to be a long knife or gardening tool.

He’s accused of threatening a male security guard while demanding money from another male employee.

He then allegedly assaulted the security guard, before the other man handed over cash.

The man then ran off.

The security guard was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment of minor injuries to his face and hand.

The Southport man was arrested on Friday night and charged with acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, deprivation of liberty and armed robbery with violence.

He is due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court today.
