UPDATE: Police officer hospitalised after Gold Coast accident

UPDATE April 8 2018 7am | A Gold Coast police officer is recovering in hospital after an accident in Reedy Creek.

The 50-year-old suffered leg injuries after his trailbike collided with a vehicle when entering the Penny Lane on-ramp of the Pacific Motorway around 11.30am on Saturday.

He was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment for the non-life-threatening injuries.

No one else was injured as a result of the crash and the Forensic Crash Unit is now investigating.

The incident led to minor delays on the M1.

EARLIER April 7 2018 12pm | The on-ramp to the Pacific Motorway at Reedy Creek has been closed off this morning after a serious accident involving a motorbike.

There are reports a police officer may have been on the motorbike when it was struck by a car on the southbound entrance to the M1 (Exit 85) around 11.20am.

The southbound on-ramp has been closed off while police and paramedics assess the patient, causing major delays.

There are also some delays for the southbound run on the M1 through Reedy Creek as a result.

Motorists are being asked to avoid the area.
