UPDATE: Second man charged after woman kidnapped, tortured with pole in horror attack

UPDATE @ April 23 2018 10am | Detectives investigating the alleged kidnapping and torture of a woman in Central Queensland, have charged a second man and seized a 4WD.

Police have confirmed, detectives travelled to North Queensland to make the arrest over the weekend.

The 42-year-old from Townsville has been charged with three counts of assault occasioning bodily harm, and one count each of kidnapping and torture.


In a statement released by Police today, they confirmed he is expected to appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court this morning, accused of taking part in the alleged horrific attack.

“Around 5.50pm on April 15, it will be alleged a group of four men and a woman confronted the 39-year-old woman at an apartment complex on Gregory Street (in Mackay)”, Police explain.

“The group became involved in a verbal altercation before the woman was allegedly assaulted in the foyer of the complex.

“The woman was then allegedly led outside by the group and forced into a vehicle where she was struck a number of times with a metal pole before being driven to a location on Connors Road at Bakers Creek.

“The group then allegedly dragged the woman from the car and further assaulted her with a pole before she managed to flee and hide before contacting police.”

The woman was treated at Mackay Base Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Police have today confirmed, they have “located a red Mitsubishi Pajero believed to have been used in the offence” at a property in the Townsville suburb of Cranbrook.

“The vehicle has been seized for forensic examination.”

EARLIER @ April 18 2018 10am | A MAN is due in court today, charged with kidnapping, beating and torturing a woman in a horrific attack on Queensland’s Central Coast.

Police said the 39-year-old woman was taken by a group of up to five men and women from an apartment complex in Mackay on Sunday evening.

It’s alleged the group first assaulted the woman in the foyer of the Gregory Street building before leading her outside and forcing her into a car.

Once inside the vehicle, police said the woman was “struck a number of times” with a metal pole before she was driven to Connors Road at Bakers Creek – six kilometres away.

There, it’s alleged the group dragged the woman out of the car and “further assaulted her” with the pole.

Police said the injured woman managed to escape the roadside attack and hide before calling police.

Battered, bruised and bleeding, the woman was transported to Mackay Base Hospital with numerous lacerations and a suspected broken arm.

A 40-year-old man has since been arrested and charged with one count each of kidnapping and torture and three counts of assault occasioning bodily harm whilst armed in company.

He is due to front Mackay Magistrates Court today.

Investigations into the horrific attack are continuing.
