UPDATE | Three-year-old girl dies after horror stabbing attack at her birthday party

UPDATE @ July 3: A three-year-old girl who was stabbed by a stranger at her own birthday party in the US has died.

Police confirmed the heartbreaking news in a statement a short time ago.

“The Boise Police Department received an update regarding our three-year-old victim flown to Utah for treatment of injuries she received in Saturday night’s attack. It is with deep sorrow we share the news that she has passed away today,” authorities said.

The toddler was among six children who were stabbed by 30-year-old Timmy Earl Kinner, when he stormed an apartment complex in Idaho on Saturday.

Three parents were also knifed whilst trying to protect the youngsters.

Police said the apartment complex where the fatal attack took place is home to many refugee families, however it’s not believed to be a hate crime.

“This was an attack on those who are most vulnerable: our children,” Boise Police Chief William Bones said. “It’s untenable, unconscionable and is pure evil in my mind.”

“At this time, there is no evidence to suggest that this was a hate crime.”

Police confirmed seven victims remain in hospital, many with serious or critical injuries.

Kinner was initially charged with nine counts of aggravated battery and six counts of injury to a child, however he has now been charged with first-degree murder following the young girl’s death.

Investigations are ongoing.

EARLIER @ July 2: In what police have described as an act of “pure evil”, a man has gone on a stabbing rampage at a 3-year-old girl’s birthday party, wounding her and eight other people.

The horrific attack unfolded at a unit complex in Boise, Idaho around 8.45pm on Saturday local time.

It’s understood the knifeman, identified as 30-year-old Timmy Earl Kinner, had been asked to leave the complex just a day earlier because of his behaviour.

“The suspect then returned to the apartments on Saturday and began attacking children attending a birthday party being held outside for a three-year old girl,” police said in a statement.

“Kinner attacked, targeting the children initially before turning on three adults who tried to intervene to protect the children. The 3-year-old girl, whose birthday it was, was one of those seriously injured.”

Boise Police Chief William Bones said the attack was on those who are “most vulnerable: our children.”

“It’s untenable, unconscionable and is pure evil in my mind.”

Two 4-year-old children, a 6-year-old, an 8-year-old and a 12-year-old, along with three adults, were among those stabbed in the random attack.

They were all rushed to hospital where they remain. According to local media, four of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries.

Police say Kinner has an extensive criminal history spanning several states.

“He has spent time in prison and his past does include violence against others,” police confirmed.

He’s facing nine counts of aggravated battery and six counts of injury to a child.
