Ute airborne in shocking crash

A MAN has lost control of his ute, become airborne and wiped out several cars in a shocking crash in Byron Bay.

The dramatic scenes unfolded in the centre of the tourist town about 4.50pm on Friday.

Police said the 43-year-old man lost control of his Ford utility at the intersection of Fletcher and Lawson streets.


The ute narrowly missed bystanders as it became airborne and smashed into several parked cars, police said.

Thankfully, no one was injured.

The driver was arrested at the scene and subjected to a roadside breath test, which he passed.

The man was then taken to Byron Bay police station where he was charged with dangerous driving.

He was released on conditional bail and is due to front Byron Bay Local Court on 15 July.
