Van towing boat rolls on M1, causing early morning traffic chaos

A man has miraculously escaped serious injury after the van he was driving rolled on the Pacific Motorway this morning.

The Toyota Hiace, which was towing a boat on a trailer, lost control and crashed in the southbound lanes at Merrimac just after 4.30am.

The crash blocked two lanes of the highway for around an hour as emergency crews cleaned up the scene.

It caused lengthy delays for early morning motorists, however, the road was cleared by 5.20am, with traffic now flowing freely.

The driver of the vehicle, a 45-year-old man, suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene by paramedics.

He has since been taken to Robina Hospital in a stable condition.
