VIC: Man fighting for life in hospital after foolish ute accident

A MAN has been airlifted to hospital with life threatening head injuries after he was injured while trying to jump on the back of a moving ute near Ballarat overnight.

Police were called to Remembrance Way at Windermere about 12.30am and were told the 41-year-old man from Haddon was attempting to get onto the rear tray of the utility when he fell and hit his head.

He was airlifted to The Alfred hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

The 29-year-old male driver, also from Haddon, was arrested at the scene and is currently in police custody, assisting Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives with their enquiries.
