Victoria records 1,438 Covid-19 cases, five further deaths
The coronavirus situation in Victoria has reached a grim new milestone, with 1,438 new infections diagnosed overnight.
That’s 500 more cases than yesterday’s figures, prompting concerns that case numbers will continue to balloon.
It comes as the state powers on with easing restrictions, rather than double down on harsh lockdown measures to try and contain it.
There were also five further deaths overnight, the details of which will be announced in the press conference later today.
Over 34,000 people came forward for their vaccine, while over 65,000 people came forward for testing.
Authorities will provide more information later today.
