Victoria records 22 new local infections, all linked to current outbreak

There’s been a spike in daily coronavirus cases in Victoria, on the day the state was supposed to come out of lockdown.

22 new infections were diagnosed overnight, after over 59,000 people came forward for testing yesterday.

All are linked to the current outbreak, which was brought into the state from Sydney.

The cluster now stands at 107 cases.

It comes as the whole of Victoria begins seven more days of lockdown restrictions, with residents only allowed to leave their homes for essential reasons.

Yesterday, there were just thirteen cases diagnosed, sparking concerns that numbers are not going in the right direction and could get even worse still.

Victorian authorities will provide more information later today.
