Victoria records nine new local cases as lockdown extension looms

VICTORIA has recorded another nine new local COVID-19 cases as residents wait to hear about how long they will remain in lockdown.

The health department confirmed it recorded 13 new infections in the 24 hours to Tuesday morning, four of which were already announced.

12 of the cases have been linked to the current outbreak but one case is still under investigation.

The state also recorded two cases in hotel quarantine, bringing the total number of infections to 96.

Victorians are waiting to hear from Premier Daniel Andrews this morning after he confirmed the statewide lockdown would be extended beyond the midnight deadline tonight.

On Monday, Mr Andrews admitted there were still “far too many” cases to ease the restrictions as planned.
