Victoria’ Police Chief Commissioner, Graham Ashton, plans to step down at the end of his current term in the top job.
Mr Ashton, who has three years left in the top job, only began his five year term in July 2015.

Monday’s announcement comes ahead of the release of new state crime figures, which are expected out at the end of the week.
Mr Ashton expects the data to show an improvement, which may go some way to taking the edge off criticism of his performance by the state coalition opposition.
It comes less than a week after a terror siege in Melbourne’s bayside suburb of Brighton left one man dead, a woman taken hostage and resulted in a number of search warrants across the northern suburbs.
