Victoria’s daily infection number more than DOUBLES overnight

There’s been a massive spike in coronavirus cases in Victoria overnight, with 57 new local cases recorded.

That’s more than double yesterday’s case number of 24, despite Greater Melbourne being in lockdown for two weeks.

Luckily 44 were isolated for their entire infectious period, but it does mean 13 have potentially spread the virus further in the community.

It’s prompted fears that the city will lose control of the virus yet again, and be in extended lockdown in the hopes of avoiding a Sydney situation.

Today marks the 200th day that Melbrounians have been in lockdown since the start of the pandemic.

Authorities will provide more information about the cases in this morning’s update.

More to come.
