VIDEO: Free festival to celebrate Hinze Dam’s 40th anniversary

The Hinze Dam is celebrating an important milestone this weekend and all Gold Coasters are invited to the party.

This year marks 40 years since the Hinze Dam was constructed to supply drinking water to the Gold Coast. It has undergone two upgrades over the years, and now boasts a catchment area of 207km2 and holds 310,730 megalitres of water at full supply. The dam is also a beautiful recreational area, with many tourists and locals enjoying the dam’s lakeside parks, walking, bike and horse trails and barbeque areas.

This Saturday July 23, Hinze Dam will be celebrated at a free day-long festival. In the lead up to the 40th birthday celebrations, myGC visited the dam to find out more what Seqwater has planned for the event. Check out the video below:

The Hinze Dam’s 40th celebrations will be MC’d by Channel 7 presenter Liz Cantor and will offer entertainment for the whole family, including music with local acts Blue Poppy and Midnight Grove. There will also be historical and catchment creature tours, a fun interactive science show for kids and plenty of food stalls and displays.

Seqwater Chief Executive Officer Peter Dennis said the 40th anniversary was a opportunity to look back and take stock of the past as well as plan for future. “I invite South East Queenslanders to come along and join Seqwater in celebrating our proud water history,” he said. “It can be easy to take a safe, secure water supply for granted – but water is essential for all aspects of life, and we’re very proud of the role we play in a healthy and prosperous South East Queensland.”
