Virgin mobile outage hits Gold Coast customers


MORE than two million Virgin Mobile customers including customers on the Gold Coast were unable to call, SMS or receive any data, with the telecommunications giant experiencing a major network outage on Saturday morning.

With the company’s website also down, representatives were left with no choice but to alert users on its Facebook page posting: “The fault began early this morning and is impacting customers’ ability to SMS, call and use data.”


The statement, however, provided little comfort to customers who have since taken to social media to voice their anger – many also angry that they had to check Facebook and Twitter to work out what was going on.

A statement on Virgin Mobile’s Facebook page at 1.30pm Saturday stated “Virgin Mobile would like to sincerely apologise for the network outage that has occurred today. We understand the importance of connectivity in the lives of our customers and would like to assure you that we have taken every step to resolve this as quickly as possible.

Additionally we would like advise that all customers affected will be given a credit that is the equivalent of their access fee for the entire day.

Again, we apologise for this unplanned outage, and we will ensure all outstanding network issues are fully resolved as soon as possible.”

Virgin has promised to keep customers informed on their Facebook and Twitter page of any developments.
