The votes are in and Australia’s ‘bird of the year’ has been revealed…

It’s official Australia.

They’re known for targeting us during swooping season, but it seems we love them nonetheless, with the MAGPIE being dubbed Australia’s 2017 bird of the year.

The black and white feathered creature took out the top spot in the Guardian Australia and BirdLife Australia bird of the year poll, swooping the victory away from the early leader – the Ibis.

The magpie scored a whopping 19,926 votes of the total 149,848 votes, beating the ‘Bin Chicken’ who came in at a close second with 19,083 votes.
