A 43-year-old man has been charged over the horrific attack which allegedly unfolded inside a Holbeck Street home in the north-western suburb of Doubleview just after midnight.

It’s alleged the man became involved in an argument with a woman inside the home, before dousing two girls and a boy in petrol and setting them alight.

The youngest child, a three-year-old girl, was left with “horrendous” injuries and is in a critical condition, fighting for her life in hospital.

The two other children, a seven-year-old girl and a six-year-old boy, are in a stable condition.

Local news website PerthNow reported how neighbours recalled the hair-raising moment the children’s mother ran onto the street, terrified, screaming “Help, help, he’s set the kids on fire”.

The accused was arrested at the scene and was due to appear briefly in Perth Magistrates Court today, charged with one count of aggravated grievous bodily harm and two counts of attempted grievous bodily harm.
