Wanna-be thief charged over alleged stabbing of heroic neighbour

A man has been charged over the alleged stabbing of another man during a violent break-in attempt at Palm Beach earlier this month.

The 24-year-old man from Logan is accused of throwing a concrete garden tile through the back glass door of an elderly couple’s home along Cypress Avenue around 9.15pm on November 15.

The couple’s neighbour, a 40-year-old man, heard the commotion and rushed over to investigate the noise when he was allegedly confronted by the man and stabbed in the chest with a knife.

The heroic neighbour was rushed to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Thankfully he is now okay.

Following investigations, detectives executed a search warrant at a home in Moorooka this afternoon where they arrested the 24-year-old.

He’s been charged with one count each of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, wilful damage and stalking.

The man is due to appear at the Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow.
