Food and wine lovers are invited to indulge in a rich sensory experience at Sanctuary Cove’s inaugural Winter Wine festival this weekend.
Kicking off today, the three day event will feature a series of informative and entertaining wine-appreciation style presentations and tastings in a specially-themed pop-up precinct in The Marine Village called ‘The Vineyard’. Visitors will get to enjoy a ‘Wine Trail’ with a selection of wine tastings and dining events on offer at the restaurants around the precinct.
The wintry affair will also include a special guest panel each day, that will see a selection of experts and wine makers take part in discussions on all things wine. Rauri Donkin, senior winemaker at Bimbadgen, will be in attendance over the three-day festival to showcase the Estate’s range of premium wines from the world famous vineyard district. Renowned wine writer and champagne expert, Ken Gargett, will also come on board as a special guest presenter, sharing his knowledge and passion for fine champagnes at daily seminars, while regular wine tasting sessions and live music taking place amid an intimate wintry setting will enhance the festival atmosphere.

Bimbadgen general manager Adam Morris said the Winter Wine festival was an exciting opportunity for wineries and producers not only from the immediate region, but also from around Australia and the world to converge in the one location for visitors to enjoy. “Bimbadgen will be showcasing our Estate range of wines, focusing on the classic Hunter varietals of Shiraz, Semillon and Chardonnay. For fun, our Sparkling Semillon is a must-try wine. I’ve had a sneak preview of the Winter Wine program, which balances education and entertainment in equal measure, with plenty of opportunity for laughs and the friendly banter that makes our industry so great. Added to the spectacular waterfront setting that is the Sanctuary Cove Marine Village, with its vast array of dining options, it’s hard to imagine a better way for food and wine lovers to spend a day out.”
With each Marine Village restaurant offering its own unique tastings and special menu options, Black Angus Bar and Grill restaurant manager Joffrey Hagop said his award-winning eatery would feature premium drops from Moet Hennessy, with representatives Scott Parker and David Cross to host tastings for the luxury French liquor brand, notably from the Domaine Chandon range, across the three days. “We will also incorporate our fresh produce in a signature dish of the day, and invite diners to discover the warm and inviting atmosphere of Black Angus as they follow the Winter Wine tasting trail, and perhaps stop to enjoy a beautiful steak cooked just to their liking, paired with an exquisite glass of wine or champagne from one of the world’s most respected wineries.”
For those wanting to continue their wine experience into the evening on Saturday August 13, the InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort has partnered with the renowned Amadio Wines to present an exclusive wine dinner hosted by third-generation winemaker and Amadio CEO, Danniel Amadio.
