Residents living on the water at Runaway Bay have watched on in shock as a boat burst into flames this afternoon, sending plumes of thick black smoke billowing into the sky.
The vessel is believed to have been moored out the back of a home on Cockleshell Court when it erupted just before midday on Saturday.
Three fire crews were called in to help battle the flames, with water police assisting.

Queensland Ambulance Paramedics also remained on standby at the scene, however thankfully no one was on the boat at the time and there were no injuries.
Videos show residents in surrounding homes and people on jet skis watching on as flames engulfed the boat, which began to sink.
One witness told myGC she was getting ready for an open home at her property when she saw the chaos unfold.
“I was in the bathroom and I heard someone from the water screaming fire fire,” she said.
“We are at the end of the cul de sac so we looked down the street and it looks like the fire was halfway down the street but then the fire kept moving and we soon realised that it was a boat on fire and it was coming down Cockleshell Court which is where we’re located.
“It was really terrifying because the water police were trying to lasso the boat before it drifted into another house”.
It’s not yet known what sparked the fire.
